Venue
CEWM 2015 will be hosted by the Myrmecological team of the Department
of Evolutionary Zoology and Human Biology, at the Life Science Building (ÉTK:
F015-016 lecture room), University of
Debrecen, Egyetem tér 1, Debrecen, Hungary (maps). This
building is between the main building and the
Botanical garden. Travelling As Debrecen is the 2nd
largest city of Hungary, several possibilities are available to reach it. We
list the most important details here but you can find more information on the
official website of the local government and the local transport
company. TRAIN
Debrecen is situated in the east of
Hungary and there are frequent InterCity trains coming to Debrecen from
Budapest (see train information, ticket
booking is also possible here). When you arrive in Budapest by train you have
the following possibilities to reach Debrecen: Most international trains
arrive in Budapest at “Keleti pályaudvar”
(pályaudvar = railway station) or some at “Déli pályaudvar”. Although InterCities are available also from Keleti
to Debrecen, the railway station called “Nyugati pályaudvar” has the quickest and most frequent contact
with Debrecen. You can reach Nyugati both from Keleti and Déli by using the
underground 2 (the red line) and change to line 3 (blue) at “Deák tér” (tér
= square). It takes about 30 minutes in both cases and needs only one ticket.
You can see the main train routes coming to Debrecen from different Hungarian
cities on this map. When you
arrive in Debrecen by train you can easily reach the university from the “Nagyállomás” (= the local railway station) by tram 1 or 2. CAR
You can reach Debrecen (GPS
coordinates of the building: 47°33'21.31"N; 21°37'18.35"E; maps) on roads
No. 4, 33, 35, 42, and 47, or M3 highway leading to Görbeháza,
and from Görbeháza M35 highway leading directly to
Debrecen (see this map). The
duration of such a journey from the capital is approximately 2-2.5 hours. At
the same time Debrecen can be reached from other regional centres like
Miskolc and Nyíregyháza on highways M35 and M3, or
M30. From Ártánd, Romania you can reach Debrecen
directly on road No. 47. Before using highways do not forget to purchase
electronic motorway sticker online or at a
petrol station. Parking is free at the campus only for half an hour (see the
gateways on this map) but it is
free outside the campus to the west and south. PLANE
Debrecen International Airport (DEB) You can reach the university and
several hotels directly by bus. It is 3500 HUF to go by Főnix Taxi
to the campus. Budapest Ferenc Liszt
International Airport (BUD) We suggest booking airplane tickets early because the Hungarian Formula One in Budapest will take place
the same weekend. We suggest travelling to Debrecen
by train. InterCities
starting frequently from “Nyugati pályaudvar, Budapest” stop at “Ferihegy”
station. You can reach the train station by bus 200E during the daytime and
by bus 900 at night. You can buy bus tickets at the airport (post office,
newsstands) or at the bus stop from ticket automat and from the driver for
extra price. Train tickets are available at the train station or you can buy
them on-line. See here the
discount possibilities for tourists if you plan to travel to Budapest. Oradea International Airport (OMR). This airport is relatively close to
Debrecen but you need to go to Oradea first and find a bus to Debrecen. It is
worth choosing this airport only if someone can pick you up there. TRAM
We suggest using the two trams to move
within the city as both of them start from the railway station, cross the
city centre and have stations close to the campus. Line 1 has a shorter way
than line 2, is closer to the campus, goes on traditional and green parts of
the city and you can easily see the campus on the right (a park with a large
fountain in front of the main building) when you
arrive at the “Egyetem” (= University) station. If
you are closer to line 2, you can get off at “Károlyi
Mihály utca” (utca = street) where you need to cross the street and go
ahead in “Martonfalvi utca”
to the western gateway of the campus (see this map for
details). |
